Explore COA's Islands

Friday, April 9, 2021 at 3:30 PM until 4:30 PMEastern Daylight Time UTC -04:00

One of the important things about learning at College of the Atlantic (COA) is that we really value doing. Books and papers and lectures are all important, but sooner or later you have to cut yourself free, get out the oars, start the engine, hoist the sail, and actually get out there and do it, whatever "it" is for you. COA's field station on Great Duck Island is a place where students interested in ecology, natural history, art, or the history of humans on the land have an opportunity to conduct original research, create unique work, and find their particular educational focus. In this interactive session, faculty member John Anderson will take you on a virtual tour of some of the work that students have been doing and continue to do among the islands here in Maine. We will also discuss what sorts of career tracks alumnx of the program have followed and how you could become involved if this seems to meet your passion. Pretty pictures? You bet, but we'll also tackle some challenging questions relating to the role of ecology and human ecology in the 21st century.
